Last Saturday’s event was the most lively we’ve seen in a while, due in large part to the great turnout we had on our side (including our new friend Lizard Man and his band), and in even larger part to the comical antics of our belligerent preacher friend Jeremiah.

Seeming even more agitated than usual, Jeremiah continually moved his soap box and speaker around the corner in a vain attempt to avoid us between bursts of frustrated and angry preaching. I guess he’s lucky he had us though, because Al (the other preacher with a mic that night) couldn’t seem to get people to listen to him at all where he was.

Fortunately for us there were relatively few preachers out that night, so we did a good job of overwhelming them. Unfortunately there are still many nights where they outnumber us and flood all of Mill in a sea of fundamentalist Christian propaganda pamphlets while we are largely confined to one area.

This is where you can help the most.

If you are interested in helping us hand out our tracts or talking to people about our side, either through the mic or individually, contact us or just show up on Mill and find us. We can’t have too many people, and the more people we have, the more fun we have.

We have been considering a foray into First Fridays territory in downtown Phoenix as well, and after hearing the latest reconnaissance from this month’s event, we intend to be there for the next one on December 5th. More information will be posted prior to the event, so hopefully we’ll see some new people there as well. If you live in Phoenix and don’t get down to Mill often, this may be the event for you.

Starting at the meeting on the 14th we will be attempting to implement a new meeting format which should make them more enjoyable and provide more opportunities for everyone to cover any topics they want to discuss. This is a work in progress though, so if you have any ideas to make it better, we would love to hear them. We want our meetings to be as fun and productive as we can make them.

Beyond that, we are looking for ideas that will help get our inactive members involved. If there is something you think we should be doing that we’re not, let us know! If there is a project you think you can lead, bring it up at a meeting, on the forum, in e-mail or even at the table at ASU and we’ll see if we can help you make it happen.

At the moment we are involved in a food drive at ASU. This is an important cause, and a chance for us to start doing more tangible good in the community, so if anyone wants to help out with that, again, please let us know.

When we have more solid projects lined up they will be posted here and in the forum and sent out in e-mail, so keep an eye out for those, but remember, the best way to get a project you’re interested in to happen is to suggest one!
